State-of-the-art XRD -

HALO’s current X-ray diffraction products are designed to operate with any 3rd-party CT system. This provides airport operators with the option to deploy a preferred automated screening lane, with a preferred CT, and combine both with the benefits of HALO XRD. This is a major step forward in overall false alarm performance for the checkpoint. However, there may be a requirement from the regulator that exceeds the detection capability of the CT primary screening system. HALO is working to address this challenge with a unique solution.

  • A world first ONYX detection system acquiring CT and XRD data simultaneously on a single rotating gantry.

  • Significantly improved XRD signal-to-noise performance through XRD back-projection, reconstruction, and object segmentation (analogous to CT performance improvement over static projection X-ray).

  • Improved detection performance by leveraging co-located CT and XRD imaging domains.

The ONYX concept will develop a full engineering prototype having both CT and XRD components co-located on the same rotating gantry to generate geometrically aligned CT and XRD voxel data simultaneously. This combination of 3D CT and 3D XRD information provides next-generation datasets from which the highest threat detection performance can be achieved with the lowest levels of false alarms.
